A Force for Nature

Abandoned Gas Station

Bexley, Ohio

Design Engineer: Cox-Colvin & Associates

Client: City of Bexley

Completed: 2018

Environmental Remediation Contractor was hired by the city of Bexley as the Environmental General Contractor for this project to remediate the former Sunoco petroleum service station. Gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs) were previously removed, however, historical releases had contaminated both soil and groundwater at the site. The remedial activities for this project included excavation and off-site disposal of petroleum contaminated soils, as well as the addition of oxygen-releasing amendments to the exposed groundwater in order to stimulate microbial growth and enhance contaminant degradation. Over 7,500 tons of impacted soil were excavated and hauled off-site to a Subtitle D facility for disposal. During the project, ERC encountered an additional unknown UST which we also disposed of. The site was restored by the placement of topsoil, seeding & mulching.
